Springs are used for a wide range of products in heavy duty industries, such as automotive, aerospace, railroad and military, as well as in everyday items such as pens, beds, chairs, watches and staplers. To ensure that springs meet strict tolerance requirements, they are tested on dedicated machines that are also known as spring testers.
The typical parameters measured on springs are spring rate, spring load, load on displacement and displacement on load. Some of the most commonly used springs are compression springs, extension springs, torsion springs, constant force springs and high rate springs (wave washers, reciprocating washers and Belleville washers).
